My experience does not negate you argument nor does it support it. My reason was that OWC has tested the 1600 MHz RAM that they sell will be compatible with my MBP which results in a small performance increase. The response was negative so I opted for 1333MHz RAM as Apple specifications call for. When I was shopping for replacement RAM for my second late 2011 MBP, I checked with Crucial to see if 1600MHz Ram would be acceptable. They do not generally plug modules into Macs and run tests on them. Their method of determining what "works" is to do a "Big Data" analysis of what sales "stick" and what sales get returned. Use caution when accepting Crucial's recommendations. Thanks. I've disabled Spotlight and invoke TM only manually. Basic response (keystrokes, menus, scrolling, item selection, application launch and quit) is stutteringly slow and lagging-but sometimes, after a restart, everything is fine (with the zippy performance I expected from the SSD upgrade) for a while.
